Happy New Year

Posted by vsimpson | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 07-01-2018

I hope you have enjoyed the break with your lovely little ones and are having a great New Year so far.

Can I start off by saying a massive thank you for the lovely cards and gifts that you so kindly sent in before the holidays. They were gratefully received and enjoyed over the festive period!

We only had 3 days in the first week back but as always we packed lots into them.

In English we have been exploring the text: The Robot and the Bluebird by David Lucas. We have inferred the character’s feelings and made comparisons between robots and human beings.

In mathematics we have been measuring length to the nearest half cm and m. The children have then used these skills to answer practise SATs questions.

Our new topic this half term is London’s Burning. We will be finding out all about the Great Fire of London and the impact it has had on our lives today.

To supplement our leaning we will be visiting Staircase House in Stockport to learn more about this fascinating event. Please can all slips be signed and returned to school. If you need another letter we will provide one for you. The trip takes place on Monday 29th January. Helpers are still needed, please let me know if you are interested.

I have found a great  game for your children to play on line that will help introduce them to the facts. Please use the link below to try it.

Our Learning Hero this week was Charles for fantastic progress in reading, well done.

Please don’t forget to encourage your children to visit the abacus website for a wealth of books, games and activities especially targeted for them.

Attendance really improved for our class towards the end of last term, I’m hoping we can get some 100% weeks this half term so the children can earn their class treat.

Kind regards

Mrs Simpson and Mrs Hunter
